The Scene begins with a still shot of Westley running up a hill before the camera changes to a second camera, which reveals Vizzini and Buttercup in a wide angle shot sat in front of a table, upon which is cheese and wine. At this time, Buttercup appears blindfolded in Vizzini's custody. Then we get a pan shot from camera #1 of Westley approaching the table while in discussion with Vizzini on how he will get Buttercup back from him we he challenges Vizzini to a "Battle of wits." Whilst in discussion, the cameras most of the time switch to the person delivering the dialogue at that time. When Westley does sit down at the table, camera #1 pans and zooms to follow Westley. Then the battle of wits begins. Vizzini Pours two glasses of wine before Westley hands Vizzini a canister of an uknown substance for him to smell. Vizzini smells nothing so he hands it back to Westley who then reveals that it is Iocane powder, a colorless, odorless, toxin that can dissolve in any liquid. He then moves both wine glasses behind his back to dump in the Iocane powder before switching them about when returning them to the table as to confuse Vizzini as to which glass would contain the Iocane powder. Then Vizzini launches into a discussion as to which glass may contain the Iodine before he gets Westley to look behind him at something. While Westley has his back turned, Vizzini swaps the glasses thinking that Westley had put the Iocane powder in his glass. Once Westley turns back around, Vizzini Finally agrees to drink the wine. They both drink and Vizzini launches into an intellectual bombardment on how he was right before laughing and falls over dead. Westley then proceeds to untie Buttercup from her bondages when she asks how he knew which glass had the Iocane, so he revealed that he had actually put the Iocane powder in both glasses having built up an immunity to so he could survive it. During the battle of wits there had been four different shots used repeatedly. Shot #1 is a medium shot of Vizzini and Buttercup at the table framed by Westley, while shot #2 is also filmed on #1, but it is just a close up of just Vizzini. Shot #3 is a close up of Westley filmed on camera #2, while shot #4 is a medium shot of Westley framed by Vizzini shot on camera #2. A few wide angle shots are used during the scene to reveal jagged grassy hills behind Vizzini, while behind Westley lie several trees. The actors use hand motions and body language extensively during the scene to further their characters and dialogue. Lighting for the scene appears to have just been sunlight as normal shadows are still present.
